How much should I expect to spend on a vacation to Costa Rica?

Question by Sam: How much should I expect to spend on a vacation to Costa Rica?
I am traveling to Costa Rica for about five days and i am curious as to how much I should expect to spend. I plan on buying drinks at the bar and partying in addition to things like ATVs or Jet Skis. How much should I expect to spend. I already covered air fare and hotel so I am referring to spending change.

It depends GREATLY on where you are going.

For example, I am going to Pavones next week. I will spend about $ 30 per day there… that includes drinking at night, food, and maybe a fishing trip too. I go to surf.

In Jaco, I could spend at least twice that.

Throw in a Jet Ski or ATV rental, and add around $ 50-$ 150 for that adventure. I zip lined south of Jaco last year, and the cost was about $ 30.

Costa Rica can be a very cheap vacation in the more rural areas, but in the tourist areas, it is quite expensive.

What do you think? Answer below!

I always kind of estimate $ 100 a day for entertainment. I don’t always spend quite that much but often I do. White water rafting was $ 95.00. Zip lining was $ 60.00. Zip lining with the additional hiking was $ 85.00. Alcohol will depend on if you go to a local club or go to a tourist club. The tourist clubs have American prices. The local clubs are much more reasonable. Your ATV’s and Jet Skis will add up quickly, as will your alcohol tab if you drink a lot.

The easiest way to estimate it is to use normal American tourist prices. The Costa Ricans have figured out what we are willing to pay, and that is about what they charge. You will occasionally get deals, and if you explore outside the tourist areas you’ll pay much less, but you’ll want to be prepared for the norm.

    Hi,

If you’ve got all the essentials covered, no more than $ 1500. And even that will be more than enough!

However, you might as well have a great time.

ATV is around $ 100, jet skiing $ 130. Most tours range from $ 50-150.

Depending on the area your bar bill and restaurant bill can compare to US prices.

    Hope this helps,
