what papers will i need to drive my car into nicaragua from costa rica?

Question by barracuda: what papers will i need to drive my car into nicaragua from costa rica?
I am driving to nicaragua next month from Costa rica. I own the car but have lost the registration document and it is going to take too long to get a new one. Can I use the document I got from the lawyer when I bought the car, that document has the cars and my details on it and it is stamped by the registration office. Will that be enough?

I wouldn’t be surprised if you have trouble at the border with that. You know all they want is money. I wouldn’t mention that the document is not the registration. I’d try passing it off as the registration.
Get a visa from the Nicaraguan Consulate in San Jose before you go.

You can bet you are going to get at least a hassle every time you need to produce your registration. Have you actually checked to see how long it will take to get a duplicate registration? Even here in backward Honduras all it takes is a trip to the bank, a small fee, and a few minutes while the information is entered into the computer.
