Where in Costa Rica should I rent a place for 4 months, and how much?

Question by csss s: Where in Costa Rica should I rent a place for 4 months, and how much?
I want to rent fairly comfortable place in Costa Rica for 4 months. Want to be able to use internet regularly, hang out with people, and of course meet lovely Tica ladies.
Will 4k in cash last me 4 months there?

Travel visas are 90 days, not 4 months, but can be extended for a nominal fee.

The Immigration Officer will not allow you to stay for 4 months if all you bring with you is $ 4,000. Minimum of $ 2,500 / month is required of “Rentistas”. Pensionados require $ 1,500 / month. (The weblink below is out of date, but even under the previous rules, you’d still need $ 2,000 / month.)

  1. Gator says:

    Depends on the accommodation.
Ticket prices are the best for central America but you also have to pay an exit tax of roughly $ 35 (forgot the exact amount) you can find tickets under $ 400-500 from most cities in USA. Hotels & Restaurants are more expensive than in San Francisco, and I’ve pretty much traveled the whole country except the Atlantic cost. 3 star hotels are 60-90$ and can easily go over $ 100 in popular tourist destination.

Was able to find internet in most places, harder in mountainous regions like Monteverde… although internet cafes are popular for a fee.

So do the math if you stay in 3 star hotels (keep in mind, unless it’s American owned – the quality is below U.S standard) – with that in mind 4K will last you for a month. If you travel with a group and do budgeting, backpacking it can last for 3 month as most visas are 90 days
