Costa Rican Corporation Lets Poker Players Educate Children and Conserve Rainforest with Each Hand

Rainforest Technology S.A. is releasing an online poker product and casino that lets players conserve portions of rainforest and fund programs to educate children in Costa Rica.

“Rainforest Technology is not just donating a small portion of their profits to Rainforest conservation and educations programs, they are donating at least one half of their quarterly profits and it is written in their charter.” Stated Christopher Bonilla, president of Rainforest Technology.

When asked why they are being so generous, he replied. “This corporation was founded specifically to try and slow the destruction of the rainforest and to educate children in the importance of conservation and ecology. We chose online poker as one of the methods as we see it as something that is potentially very profitable and without risk to us. If other online companies just donated 1% to these efforts it would make a huge difference, but we do not expect that to happen. There is so much greed in the industry that we see many companies doing everything they can not to contribute that a few of the people from the industry got together and came up with this idea. We know that it will take time and that we are competing with some of the biggest and most well-funded companies, but we are determined to make this happen and to make a difference here in Costa Rica. I mean the children that go to public schools in Costa Rica have to write their books from what the teachers write on the blackboard, there is little conservation taught, and drivers’ education does not exist here in the public schools. Even if we can help get some more books and computers in the classrooms the first year, we will consider ourselves successful.”
