How long does “priority mail” take to get from Costa Rica to the United States?
Question by HappyBeingMe2010: How long does “priority mail” take to get from Costa Rica to the United States?
Someone has mailed me a book using “priority mail”, they live in Costa Rica, sending it to me in Illinois.
How long does it take to ship here, I should say.
Best answer:
Answer by Orange
Mail to/from Costa Rica is a 50/50 proposition. The Postal System in Costa Rica is a complete mess, especially since there are no formal addresses. Packages To Costa Rica are almost as often “lost” as actually delievered. Mail FROM Costa Rica is probably better, if it makes it on the plane.
I would say 4-7 days, IF ever.

Store-A-Tooth Initiates International Growth in Services to Preserve Stem Cells from Teeth — Initial Expansion in Latin America
Lexington, MA (PRWEB) March 29, 2011
Store-A-Tooth™ today announced that it will collaborate with Cordon de Vida in several Latin American countries to collect and preserve stem cells from teeth—baby teeth that come loose during childhood, wisdom teeth extracted from teens or young adults, and teeth that need to be pulled to make room for braces.
Under the collaboration agreement, Cordon de Vida will offer Store-A-Tooth services directly to consumers and dentists in several countries across Latin America. Dentists and oral surgeons assist with tooth collection for parents who choose to save the stem cells in their children’s teeth – as an investment in their family’s future health.
Teeth removed during routine dental care will be shipped in special transport kits from dentists’ offices to a high-quality cell-preservation facility in the United States. The agreement covers Panama, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Guatemala.
“The potential of stem cell therapy is becoming more widely known to people around the world,” said Howard Greenman, chief executive officer of Provia Laboratories, LLC, which provides the Store-A-Tooth services. “We expect to move quickly on international opportunities even as we continue expanding our reach within the United States. In Cordon de Vida we have a partner that has been extremely successful in Central and South America because of their commitment to quality, customer satisfaction and strong leadership.”
In 2000 researchers at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) demonstrated that teeth are a source of stem cells with the potential to differentiate into various specialized cell types. In human studies, dental stem cells have already been used to regrow jawbone and treat periodontal disease. Research into a number of medical applications is early, but promising. Stem cells from teeth are being studied for their potential to help treat conditions such as type 1 diabetes, spinal cord injury, heart attack and stroke, corneal damage and neurological diseases like Parkinson’s.
“This collaboration is a natural extension of our work in helping families prepare to take advantage of what we believe will be the growing number of applications for stem cells in medicine and dentistry,” said Michael Rottenberg, business manager for Cordon de Vida, S.A. in Panama. “We have already established a leadership position in preserving stem cells from umbilical cord blood. Because the potential uses of stem cells from cord blood and teeth are complementary, we are pleased to offer both services for parents who wish to store their children’s stem cells. We chose to partner with Store-A-Tooth™ because their platform is built upon proven technologies, and the team’s experience and commitment to quality are consistent with ours.”
The process is simple. The patient’s family makes an appointment when a baby tooth is ready to fall out or a wisdom tooth needs to be extracted – it’s recommended to have the tooth taken out by a dental professional so its blood supply is still intact. After removing the tooth, the dentist or oral surgeon places it into a kit designed to protect the tooth during overnight transport to the cell-preservation facility. There the sample is decontaminated, tested to confirm its sterility, and the dental pulp harvested from the tooth. Quality control tests such as flow cytometry are performed to confirm that stem cell biomarkers are present in the samples, which are then stored at extremely low temperatures so that the stem cells can be retrieved and used in future years.
Financial details of the collaboration are not being disclosed.

There are regular bus routes, and the cost is low. I would not try to take a rental car across a border, unless you ask first at the rental office.

Question by mary bridget g: On an average, how long does it take to get from columbus to Costa Rica on a flight?
I am going to costa rica in 3 days for spring break? I don’t live in columbus that is just where my first stop is!
Columbus Ohio and it is nonstop
what about if my first stop is in Miami Flordia and then we go to San Jose ( which is the location we are traveling to)
Best answer:
Answer by Bambi Berkowicz
Non-stop or what???
Your best bet is to go to a place where you book a flight and see what comes up in your price range. You don’t have to have a credit card to find out, you’re just browsing, but you’ll definitely find out how long the journey will take.

Question by tmeineke7: Best way to drive from San Jose Costa Rica airport to Manuel Antonio Park?
We are going to Costa Rica in January. We would like to go to Manuel Antonio Park and I thought it might be interesting to drive. However, we don’t like driving on mountainous roads with no guard rails, and I understand that the valley route includes a rope bridge. What is the best way to go to stay on a high quality road, even if it takes a little longer to get there?
Best answer:
Answer by yellowstone
Both roads are mountainous with few guard rails however the old and most direct road through Atenas is windier and more hair raising. The traffic on the Panamanian high way is very slow because of all the trucks so you shouldn’t get as stressed. Once you get to the coast, just follow the signs to Jaco and then to Manuel Antonio. I can’t remember a rope bridge on either of the two most travelled routes.

Question by REEMPIRE888: Would it be cheaper to buy a Costa Rica vacation package from Hotels.com or separately?
I’m planning a short trip to Costa Rica for about 5-6 days. Would it be cheaper to buy a vacation package deal from hotels.com or buy airfare separately online and then book hotels locally when I get there? Where would be a good and cheap place to stay in San Jose and Quepos? What are the availability around this time of year? What is the best traveling method from San Jose to Quepos?
Best answer:
Answer by vat
Go to
www.ilovecostarica.com for info…. or
www.truecostarica.com loads of info available.
I saw book a package deal, especially cheaper if you want to actually tour the countryside….there are some wonderful deals for just under $ 1,000 for 10 days including tours throughout the country, meals and hotels throughout the country. You get to see the sites, taste the foods and stay at more than one hotel/villa! I have friends in San Jose and hope to go down for a visit next spring – stay with them some, but plan to take a package tour also…Have fun!

Does Costa Rica allow felons from the US to visit?
Question by beemerbuff: Does Costa Rica allow felons from the US to visit?
I would like to visit Costa Rica, and bring a friend who has a felony conviction from 24 years ago. Will Costa Rica allow him to visit?
Best answer:
Answer by dougger
Yes, if his current record is clean. For most violations a five year period without getting into trouble is enough. But the record keeping leaves a lot to be desired. Make sure you friend has an updated record and his name is not on the wrong lists.
If his conviction is 24 years old he may ask that the record be cleared. He may have a chance of having it lifted, depending on the severity of the crime, and where.

How many miles is it from Boca Raton, FL to Costa Rica? Can you tell me about Costa Rica?
Question by TomboyBecca: How many miles is it from Boca Raton, FL to Costa Rica? Can you tell me about Costa Rica?
I wanted to know what place is best to me for vacation, so I took a quiz and the result was Costa Rica. I want to go there for summer vacation one day, but I have one question. How many miles is it from Boca Raton, FL to Costa Rica? And can you tell me about Costa Rica?
Best answer:
Answer by ticosland2008
The total distance from Miami, Fl to Costa Rica is 1,113 miles.
This is equivalent to 1,792 kilometers or 967 nautical miles. Since the distance between Boca and Miami is only about 41 miles, it is almost insignificant, but there you are. Of course we’re talking about flight distance. Driving distance is a totally different issue.
If you need more information about Costa Rica, visit the TicosLand website.

I am going to costa rica on a mission trip, and i was asked to take pictures for the trip. I want to bring my D90, but I know the moisture and humidity is REALLY bad there. Like, 100% humidity. So, i was wondering what I could do to keep my camera protected.

I would just keep a few of those Silica Gel packs in your camera bag. When not using the camera keep it sealed up in the bag. These will help. They absorb moisture in the air and wont hurt anything.

Can anyone tell me from personal experience what Costa Rica is like?
Question by Jennifer P: Can anyone tell me from personal experience what Costa Rica is like?
My family and I would like to visit Costa Rica, possible retire there in 5 years. Can anyone tell me what its really like, not just what we read in brochures? Do you have to speak Spanish or can we get along ok with just english? Crime? Economy?
Best answer:
Answer by mora
It really depends on where you live, there are many very nice towns and there are other places that really aren’t so nice (but they are completely avoidable). You don’t need to speak Spanish to live here, it would obviously help but you will see that everyone will make try their best to communicate with you in your language because that’s how people here are. In certain areas of Costa Rica there is alot of crime, specially in certain areas of San Jose like “La Carpio” or “Leon XIII”, ive lived here ever since i was born and i havent ever been to any of these two places or any other place that’s considered just as dangerous, you can avoid them and as long as you do nothing will happen.
There are a lot of very safe towns like Escazu, Santa Ana, Rohmoser, Cuidad Colon all of these are nice places to live too (close to malls, hospitals, etc). Regarding the economy, well Costa Rica is a country has been developing at a very fast rate, if you go around the city you will see many many tall buildings being built, many new roads too, the economy is at a constant growth and its a very popular country for international companies to invest because of the high level of education people have here. Obviously the worldwide economical crisis has affected the country but everything seems to be moving normally. Costa Rica is one of the few countries in the world that fit in the category of “second world” country, because it has many things that put it in the category of a first world country but there are certain things that are keeping us from being one. Health care is also very good here, proof of that is the fact that we have one of the highest life expectancies in the whole world, much higher than many so called first world countries.
Overall i think this is a very nice place to live, i honestly wouldn’t change it for nothing. The people, the weather, the beaches, the mountains and everything else that makes Costa Rica be Costa Rica make this an amazing place to be at. It has is negative sides like every country, but most of them are things that you can stay away from. My ex girlfriend is from michigan and she moved down here 1 year ago and she absolutely loves it, she won’t ever go back to living in the US…
So, if you are planning on moving here. You might probably want to come first for a visit and see for yourself the place you would be living at. But i’m sure that once you move down here after picking the right place, you wont be disappointed and you wont ever want to leave!
That’s my opinion as a costarrican and a person who has experience living in other countries (US, Canada, Spain).
Hope that helps you decide

Q&A: How much would it cost to ship a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo from California to Costa Rica?
Question by Jst3216: How much would it cost to ship a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo from California to Costa Rica?
A friend of mine is selling me a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo. He lives near San Francisco california, I live in Costa Rica. I am looking for some websites or contact numbers of companies that I can contact to get this done. Can anyone help? Even better (but not necessary) if you’ve done this before. Thanks.
Best answer:
Answer by Landon
Around 2500. But honestly its not worth it to spend 2500 to ship a car only worth around 4-5k. And Isuzus are a POS. You’d be much better combining the price of the car and the shipping and buying a decent car already in Costa Rica.

Question by Lindsay: What is required to drive a personal car across the border from Panama to Costa Rica, and vice versa?
My husband and I live in Panama and have to renew our visas. Last time we took buses to Costa Rica but this time we plan our driving our car. We need to know what all is required in order to drive our car (registered in Panama) across the border to CR and then back across to Panama.
Best answer:
Answer by wcruzq
Ok if you want to do it is fine.
You first need to get to the police and get clearance for the car, so that they issue you a certificate stating that it’s not stolen.
Then you need to make sure that your insurance covers the car while in Costa Rica.
When you get that done you have to go to your local customs office and apply for a travel permit, and then when they issue you the permit, you’re free to travel.
Remember you can’t sell the car while in Costa Rica!
I might have missed a step or two, but it has been a while since I’ve driven to Costa Rica.

I have two Pionus parrots that I want to move from the US to Costa Rica. I am working with a vet in the US to get the quarantine and testing done, but he has not gone through the process of obtaining the certificate and therefore would have to research the process as well. I also appreciate any suggestions about how to obtain the certificate in a timely way.

You have to obtain a permit to export from the US Fish and Wildlife. Also you need an import permit from Costa Rica. Also be aware that you will need the same permissions to taske them out of Costa Rica. Costa Rica does not generally allow the removal of any type of wildlife from the counrty, so be aware that you may have leave your birds if you move back.

Q&A: What is the cheapest way to fly to from Illinois to Costa Rica?
Question by Paul N: What is the cheapest way to fly to from Illinois to Costa Rica?
I’m going to Costa Rica for school in August and am wondering the cheapest way to do it, I live 2 hours from O’Hare and 2 hours from Milwaukee also. Thanks for the help!!
Best answer:
Answer by Orange
Your best bet is to go out of O’Hare.
For August, Sprirt has a $ 442 fare, but after the seat charges and carry-on charges are added in, it will be $ 540.
Personally, I would go with Taca Airlines. It’s a very good airline that’s always on time and provides good customer service. They are $ 520 and you get free carry on and up to 2 checked bags (50lbs each). They have a very young fleet (no 40 year planes like AA). And their newest planes have individual back-of-the-seat TV’s. You get a FREE hot meal and FREE drinks (including alcoholic). It’s only a 1 hour layover in San Salvador or Guatemala. Total travel time is only about 7 hours.
The next best would be Continental for $ 537 through Houston. Also an excellent airline.

Q&A: How much would a plane ticket cost from Olathe Kansas to Costa Rica?
Question by Meika: How much would a plane ticket cost from Olathe Kansas to Costa Rica?
I am wanting to move from Olathe, Kansas to Costa Rica and am wanting to know if anyone knows how much a one way flight ticket would be to there? It would be and my boyfriend going.
Any ideas, let me know!
Best answer:
Answer by nako
The closest airport to Olathe with commercial service would be in Kansas City, Missouri (MCI) — however, without knowing when you’d want to fly and where in Costa Rica you want to move to, no one here can give you anything other than a guess as to the cost of a ticket. (The price of a one-way airline ticket will depend on a couple of factors — the city to which you’re flying and when you’re flying.)
As an example, the cheapest one-way ticket right now between Kansas City and San Jose, Costa Rica is about $ 250 plus tax, which will work out to between $ 300 and $ 350 per ticket after tax. However, if that particular fare (on Frontier Airlines) is not available on the days you wish to travel, or you want to go to a different city in Costa Rica (such as Liberia), then the price could well be higher or lower than that.
Once you’ve figured out when you want to go, the best thing you can do is to go to a travel website (such as travelocity.com, expedia.com, kayak.com, or orbitz.com) and search for one-way tickets between Kansas City and the airport in Costa Rica you wish to fly to. Those websites will give you a more exact total as to the cost of the ticket than anyone here can do for you.
