Question by csss s: Where in Costa Rica should I rent a place for 4 months, and how much?
I want to rent fairly comfortable place in Costa Rica for 4 months. Want to be able to use internet regularly, hang out with people, and of course meet lovely Tica ladies.
Will 4k in cash last me 4 months there?

Best answer:

Answer by zeuz
Travel visas are 90 days, not 4 months, but can be extended for a nominal fee.

The Immigration Officer will not allow you to stay for 4 months if all you bring with you is $ 4,000. Minimum of $ 2,500 / month is required of “Rentistas”. Pensionados require $ 1,500 / month. (The weblink below is out of date, but even under the previous rules, you’d still need $ 2,000 / month.)

Question by alaska_joey: How much is an apartment in Puntarenas, Costa Rica?
I was thinking of going to Costa Rica for the winter. Know of any good locations on the Pacific side – with monthly rentals – cheap?

Best answer:

Answer by Becky
It depends. I can help you, I live in Costa Rica and have my own bussines in tourism. Anyway, I need to know exactly what u r trying to get, theres a lot of difference between an apartment and a hotel room .
An apartment rate begins around $ 600. A hotel room around $ 25 per night the lower price offcourse the quality wont be better than one with a higher price, but it depends .
I can give you better details if you want that, but I’ll need more information. Example: Equipped Apartment (kitchen, bedroom, dishes, refrigerator, microwave, table, tv, etc.) Or a hotel room (equipped or just the bedroom and bathroom) Also, if you’ll rent a car its necesary a parking area. This are just opinions. Let me know what are your specific needs. guerrerorebeca_ch@ecologicallandtours.com, info@ecologicallandtours.com or yahoo “dbeca19″

Question by teeny: How much does it cost to exchange traveller’s cheques in Costa Rica?
I’m going to Tamarindo, Costa Rica and I will be sharing a room (in a residence) with two other girls that i’ve never met. It’s probably better to carry the majority of my spending money in traveller’s cheques, but if it is expensive to exchange them, I’d rather just carry US dollars.

Best answer:

Answer by sin nick!
Hey!
traveller s cheques in CR aren’t expensive to change, if you gonna brink american express travellers cheques you should go to BAC san jose (private bank in CR) and they can help you i will leave the link and you take the online chat to get help

https://www.bac.net/bacsanjose/esp/banco/index.html

but i always recomend to bring US dollars, US dollars are accepted in many places in CR but better change those for CR colones (i recomend you the BCR, banco the costa rica) and bring a credit card, all american cards work in CR

enjoy your trip :)

Question by Jst3216: How much would it cost to ship a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo from California to Costa Rica?
A friend of mine is selling me a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo. He lives near San Francisco california, I live in Costa Rica. I am looking for some websites or contact numbers of companies that I can contact to get this done. Can anyone help? Even better (but not necessary) if you’ve done this before. Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by Landon
Around 2500. But honestly its not worth it to spend 2500 to ship a car only worth around 4-5k. And Isuzus are a POS. You’d be much better combining the price of the car and the shipping and buying a decent car already in Costa Rica.

My girlfriend is in costa rica on vacation and she just called me and we talked for about 25 minutes. She has US cellular. How much will it cost both me and her? And how much will it cost for us to text. Her parents do not want her using her phone so im assuming they dont have international roaming as part of their plan.

Best answer:

Answer by Horse
Probably around $ 100 dollars on her end. You know, you can actually go the US Cellular site and get her costs. If you were on your cell phone, expect it to cost you as well. Go to your cell plan and see how much it costs.

Answer by Costa Rica Guide
International cell phone calls from Costa Rica to the U.S. on can cost anywhere from $ 0.35 to $ 5.75 per minute depending on the U.S. cell phone plan.

If she has a smart phone she can use free local wi-fi hotspots to make calls to the U.S. using skype for 6.2 cents a minute and most internet cafes have VOIP options to call the U.S. for 10-15 cents per minute.

The recipient of the call in the U.S. will pay whatever they normally pay for minutes (the same as if someone called from next door).

Question by Meika: How much would a plane ticket cost from Olathe Kansas to Costa Rica?
I am wanting to move from Olathe, Kansas to Costa Rica and am wanting to know if anyone knows how much a one way flight ticket would be to there? It would be and my boyfriend going.
Any ideas, let me know!

Best answer:

Answer by nako
The closest airport to Olathe with commercial service would be in Kansas City, Missouri (MCI) — however, without knowing when you’d want to fly and where in Costa Rica you want to move to, no one here can give you anything other than a guess as to the cost of a ticket. (The price of a one-way airline ticket will depend on a couple of factors — the city to which you’re flying and when you’re flying.)

As an example, the cheapest one-way ticket right now between Kansas City and San Jose, Costa Rica is about $ 250 plus tax, which will work out to between $ 300 and $ 350 per ticket after tax. However, if that particular fare (on Frontier Airlines) is not available on the days you wish to travel, or you want to go to a different city in Costa Rica (such as Liberia), then the price could well be higher or lower than that.

Once you’ve figured out when you want to go, the best thing you can do is to go to a travel website (such as travelocity.com, expedia.com, kayak.com, or orbitz.com) and search for one-way tickets between Kansas City and the airport in Costa Rica you wish to fly to. Those websites will give you a more exact total as to the cost of the ticket than anyone here can do for you.

Question by Sam: How much should I expect to spend on a vacation to Costa Rica?
I am traveling to Costa Rica for about five days and i am curious as to how much I should expect to spend. I plan on buying drinks at the bar and partying in addition to things like ATVs or Jet Skis. How much should I expect to spend. I already covered air fare and hotel so I am referring to spending change.

Best answer:

Answer by Mike
It depends GREATLY on where you are going.

For example, I am going to Pavones next week. I will spend about $ 30 per day there… that includes drinking at night, food, and maybe a fishing trip too. I go to surf.

In Jaco, I could spend at least twice that.

Throw in a Jet Ski or ATV rental, and add around $ 50-$ 150 for that adventure. I zip lined south of Jaco last year, and the cost was about $ 30.

Costa Rica can be a very cheap vacation in the more rural areas, but in the tourist areas, it is quite expensive.

Question by will v: How much money does an engineer living in Costa Rica make if he is certified by the CFIA?
I’m going to the Columbia engineering school, and when I graduate I would like to move to Costa Rica, gain citizenship and work there. How much would you expect an engineer with my credentials (BE from Columbia University, and a couple years experience) to make? Would moving there even be a reasonable goal?

Best answer:

Answer by Orange
A whole lot less than here.

Keep this in mind… the average income there is $ 5,000/year. I would say no more than $ 40-50K with a lot of luck. And you better have a good security system because the better your lifestyle, the more they will try to rob you (whether you’re home or out). There’s a reson there are bars in the windows, high fences, and barbed-wire on almost every single house in CR, even the ones made of mud. Okay, I haven’t seen any mud houses, that was a joke. But even the crappy looking houses that nobody would ever burgalrize have tight “security”.

My question is why? You could live like royalty in the US with those credentials. And if you like CR so much, spend a couple months a year there. But whatever you do, don’t buy any “vacation” property there, unless you plan on living there year-round. They have insane laws there were squatters (a homeless family) can move into your place when you’re not there, and after some period of time, you lose the rights to that property and the courts award title to them. Absolutely mind-boggling, but true.

Question by Amanda180: How much are apartment rentals in Panama or Costa Rica?
How much are apartment rentals in Panama or Costa Rica? Also, is it necessary to have a car?

Best answer:

Answer by thomas9383738
depends, some apartments are way cheaper than the USA. some apartments are basically attracting foreign people from “rich” countries, thinking that everyone from developed countries are rich, so they put the price similar to a United States price. anyways Costa Rica is a little more expensive then panama, but it is safer, less poverty, 97% literacy rate, 18% poverty [one of the lowest in latin america], and less drug trafficking then panama. safer then panama of course.

Rice 1lb: .25-.50 cents

Question by Kate M: How much money should i take with me to Costa Rica?
I’m considering going to Costa Rica next summer for about a month for a work program. I would have a place to stay and most of my meals would be provided. I would be working in the mornings, but would have evenings and weekends off to explore. Around how much should I expect to spend while I’m there? I’m planning to spend money on zip lining trips but that’s probably it, unless I find something else exciting. =D
Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Orange
I would say that you’ll need $ 1500-2000 for a month. But I wouldn’t bring that much cash. Will you have a safe in your room? If not, I would not bring more than a couple of hundred and use ATM’s when needed. Check with your bank what fees they charge and let them know your travel dates, so they don’t freeze your card if you try to use it overseas.

That may seem like a lot, but it’s not. You will want to go out after work, so you will need to pay for taxis (never walk around after dark), drinks, and good restaurants. You willnot stay locked up in your room while in CR. You will go out more than you know. And CR is not cheap either. It may be a poor country, but the prices for everything are relatively high.

FYI-Zip lines (canopy tour) costs $ 75-100, depending on location and length.
