Famous Costa Rica Hotel is Put On Market

Famous Costa Rica Hotel is Put On Market

La Sirena Hotel Guest Room

Saint Petersburg, FL (PRWEB) March 30, 2011

An iconic Costa Rica hotel property located in the Pacific town of Quepos is now for sale, and according to local experts, is priced to sell quickly. The Sirena Hotel, a local institution and host to some of the most famous anglers from around the world is located just steps from the brand new Marina Pez Vela. Its location close to the fishing and diving operations and their boats has made it the hotel of choice for many years for the serious anglers that come to experience the world class opportunities found just offshore.

Considered an oasis in the growing Pacific town of Quepos, the Sirena has its own swimming pool and small patio bar and is the “hideout” of choice for those looking to escape the high priced hotel of adjoining Manuel Antonio and need to find a cheap taxi at the time when they to the marina. “Its time” says co owner Steve Hodel. Now raising a family in St. Petersburg Hodel admits he cannot dedicate the time required as he once could.

“It’s a matter of priorities and fairness, I need to be here in St. Pete and I cannot leave my brother to do all the work, especially with everything he has on his plate.

His brother Rob Hodel, is based in Costa Rica but commitments to Tico Travel and their development Orchid Point Estates, keeps him in the Central Valley overseeing these projects.

The Sirena boasts 14 quaint rooms with air conditioning, cable television, mini-bar, and are decorated by award winning BBC photographs of Costa Rica wildlife.

Adjacent to the hotel is an additional property that could be used for more rooms or a separate business but currently hosts the large reception and office center for guests, which includes WiFi in all the public areas.

While currently profitable the “gold mine” as the brothers call it still has plenty of room to generate more sales through higher occupancy, tour and restaurant sales. All of this would require them to spend more time in Quepos.

“When I was in the Sportfishing Business we lived by the mantra, you never leave fish to find fish, and in the businesses we have in the San Jose area we have fish (business) that does not make sense for me to be in Quepos anymore, but I will miss it” says Rob Hodel, former owner of the Swordfish, one of Quepos’s most well known charter boats.

“For the right person or couple, this is not only a good business it is also a great life”

Hodel affirms. “I only wish that I did not make the commitments I did before my brother started his family but I am more than please with the trade for the opportunity to have a niece!

According to Hodel, the hotel is completely “turn key”, sits atop of the rankings of Trip Advisor based on guests comments as well as being recommended by most of the major Costa Rica guide books such as Lonely Planet and Moon Guide Costa Rica. It does not require any hotel experience to run, only the ability to interact with travelers over the complimentary breakfast.

In regards to the price of the hotel Hodel received many opinions.

“Some told us that because of the reputation, lack of any competition and its proximity to the new marina they should ask for top dollar.” Hodel says.

“But the people that buy this place are not looking to collect a museum piece, they will need to make a living, and a good living. They cannot due that if they pay a fortune or have enormous payments to make every month. Costa Rica is a small place and I am planning on being here a long time so its in my best interest that the buyers are successful, hopefully as well as the gentleman that bought the Swordfish from us. Besides, we have decided to sell so the price we put on it hopefully will mean it will sell as fast as the Swordfish, which took just two days.”

Opportunities like these don’t come along everyday. If you are looking to “live the dream” and still want a way to be able to pay for it, and allow for a good income, than this is one of those rare opportunities.

Sometimes in life it’s timing that counts more than anything else. For Hodel the time to make the move to sell has come. Is it your time to finally make a move for yourself?

Question by HappyBeingMe2010: How long does “priority mail” take to get from Costa Rica to the United States?
Someone has mailed me a book using “priority mail”, they live in Costa Rica, sending it to me in Illinois.
How long does it take to ship here, I should say.

Best answer:

Answer by Orange
Mail to/from Costa Rica is a 50/50 proposition. The Postal System in Costa Rica is a complete mess, especially since there are no formal addresses. Packages To Costa Rica are almost as often “lost” as actually delievered. Mail FROM Costa Rica is probably better, if it makes it on the plane.

I would say 4-7 days, IF ever.

Question by trancesend: Is it safe to do the self-driving option when touring Costa Rica?
Planning a trip to Costa Rica, is it better just to do a wholesale package tour, or do a self-drive instead to save a bit of money. Any advice, or sugesstions? thanks!

Answer by Hondu
I own a car in Honduras and have also rented cars in both Honduras and Guatemala. Many, many trips throughout both countries without a hitch. Costa Rica is more Americanized and the infrastructure is much more developed than either of those countries, so I would expect you would be just fine with a car. If you really want to save money take a look at the extensive bus systems that all the Central American countries have.

Question by csss s: Where in Costa Rica should I rent a place for 4 months, and how much?
I want to rent fairly comfortable place in Costa Rica for 4 months. Want to be able to use internet regularly, hang out with people, and of course meet lovely Tica ladies.
Will 4k in cash last me 4 months there?

Best answer:

Answer by zeuz
Travel visas are 90 days, not 4 months, but can be extended for a nominal fee.

The Immigration Officer will not allow you to stay for 4 months if all you bring with you is $ 4,000. Minimum of $ 2,500 / month is required of “Rentistas”. Pensionados require $ 1,500 / month. (The weblink below is out of date, but even under the previous rules, you’d still need $ 2,000 / month.)

What do you think of this itinerary for Costa Rica?

Question by Nickname: What do you think of this itinerary for Costa Rica?
I’m leaving for Costa Rica soon and wanted some opinions on my plans.

I’ll fly into San Jose where I’ll stay for the night.
The next day I’ll head to Jaco and be there for 3 days.
Then off to Monteverde for 2 days.
Then Arenal for 2 days.
Then Tamarindo for 2 days.
I’ll then travel into Nicaragua for my last 4 days.

Any recommendations for things to do in these cities or places I should spend more or less time?

Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by yellowstone
Seems like a decent itinerary to me. Why Jaco? Lot’s of night life but not the best beaches and parts are a little seedy. You might consider Manuel Antonio instead. It will take you about 2 more hours to get there but it is more interesting and has better dining options. From Monteverde the taxi boat taxi option is cheaper than going by road and nearly 2 hours quicker.

Question by jacob miller: Any suggestions for a spacious yet mobile sized bag for traveling to hostiles in Costa Rica and Belize?
I’m going to be traveling in Belize and Costa Rica and have never really done any hostile hopping of any sort before. I’m looking for a bag that I would keep everything in while I move from city to city, preferably a back pack style. Any suggestions?

Best answer:

It’s hostel not hostile. Completely different meanings.

That said http://www.amazon.com/Teton-Sports-Scout-Internal-Backpack/dp/B000F34ZKS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1292011397&sr=8-3 is amazing. I traveled around for six months with just that and it held everything.

Question by Rachael H: What is the difference between birthdays in Costa Rica and birthdays in the united sates?
Like such as the difference between United states birthday parties and costa rica birthday parties. like dancing cakes speeches……..ect.

Answer by ?Curious Fairy?
Hi!
I’m from Costa Rica and I live in the U.S. now.
How they celebrate b-days in Costa, depends on the family, really. Most people will throw in a party for their kids with cake, ice cream, music, food… some partents hold parties at McDonald’s or other fast food restaurant.
As they get older the kids may not want all that and just want to go to the movies with friends.
Instead of a ‘sweet sixteen’, in Costa Rica (like in the rest of Latin America) they celebrate a “Quinceañera” (when the girl turns 15). And it could be a BIG party like the ones they have here in the U.S., with music, all dressed up, lots of food, etc; some girls would rather ask their parents for a trip to the beach or something.
Older people hardly ever celebrate their bithday. If they do is only with a few friends and family, most people I know like going to the movies or eat out, instead of having a party.

Like I said, it depends on the family and the personal taste…

There are regular bus routes, and the cost is low. I would not try to take a rental car across a border, unless you ask first at the rental office.

Question by bella1: Has anyone been to Costa Rica during the Sept/Oct raining season? If yes, would you recommend it?
I’m planning my honeymoon at the end of September and I read that its the raining season in Costa Rica. I would like to know from someone who has traveled there at that time to advise if they would recommend it.

Best answer:

Answer by wanderingjane
Costa Rica is rainy a good bit of the year on the coast in particular. The Pacific coast has more rain than the Caribbean during the Sept/Oct time period so you may want to plan for that coast.
Also, keep in mind the mountains are just gorgeous don’t recieve the same sort of rain as the coastline. You could visit volcanoes, craters, and coffee plantations if the weather isn’t so great on the beach. The rainforests are also something worth visiting and what difference does it make if it rains there?
My favorite place in Costa Rica is on the Caribbean, just south of Limon, called Porto Viejo. There’s a fun bit of beachy nightlife, it is pretty remote, great hiking, walking, and the way they make beans and rice with coconut milk there is enchanting. As you move south towards Panama, it is very remote and you can lie around naked on picture perfect beaches with howler monkeys as your only interlopers.

What kinds of games do kids in Costa Rica play?

Question by Maw: What kinds of games do kids in Costa Rica play?
I am teaching about Costa Rica. I am looking for kids games and rules that my students can play. Something like Duck, Duck, Goose, Ring Around the Roses, or Sharks and Minnows.

Best answer:

Answer by CostaRicaBlogger.com
I know this is not the answer you seek, but in my time spent with tipico familia in Costa Rica … the games I have witnessed are; futbol, hide-n-seek and video games (ie: playstation, gamecube) – much like U.S. children.

Hopefully you get something more tipico or original off this site, but my son and his cousins/family play the above.

If you are interested in REAL pictures of Costarricense or Tico family life to share with your class, I invite you to view my own albums at the link below in the Source section.

Question by mary bridget g: On an average, how long does it take to get from columbus to Costa Rica on a flight?
I am going to costa rica in 3 days for spring break? I don’t live in columbus that is just where my first stop is!
Columbus Ohio and it is nonstop
what about if my first stop is in Miami Flordia and then we go to San Jose ( which is the location we are traveling to)

Best answer:

Answer by Bambi Berkowicz
Non-stop or what???

Your best bet is to go to a place where you book a flight and see what comes up in your price range. You don’t have to have a credit card to find out, you’re just browsing, but you’ll definitely find out how long the journey will take.

There are some sites online that pay you in advertisements for clicking on links or receiving their email. That would be a good way of getting free advertising online. Then you could also take out an ad in the paper there and have a commercial. Get out there and let it be known who you are and what you are selling.

Question by pamcarter: Why is there no truthful info in MSM news that Americans aren’t informed about the 46 warships to Costa Rica?
The responses here are clueless, angry and bewildered as to why 46 warships and 7000 troops have been sent to Costa Rica or the “so f’n what” tea party response. Why don’t Americans want to know what is happening in their own country? Ignorance couldn’t really be that blissful.

Question by Happymom13: Should I book a tour in Costa Rica or just make the plans myself?
My family (2 adults, 2 young kids) is considering a vacation in Costa Rica. The rainforest is calling out to us — and maybe the Pacific coast too. We’d like to hike in the forest, try a zip line, a canopy tour, see some waterfalls, monkeys, butterflies, and maybe even a volcano. Is it better to plan things myself (and rent a car) or just go with a tour?

Best answer:

Answer by J W
I did a study abroad program in Costa Rica this summer. Throughout the summer I did a lot of tours and traveling. I would recommend going on a tour. It is a easier, safer way to go. Traveling without a company to go through is difficult once you get out of San Jose. Also, if you go with a company they will give you more discounts.

No matter what your preference, salt water or freshwater, conventional or fly, offshore or river fishing, Costa Rica has a fishing destination for you. Costa Rica is bordered by the Pacific on the West and the Caribbean on the East. There are too many rivers to count flowing in between. If you prefer to fish lakes, there are freshwater lakes of all sizes within the borders and even creating the border with Nicaragua. There are also canals, mangroves, and
